I had the experience of a loved one being admitted to the hospital for an extended period of time. They floated between the intensive care unit, a step-down unit, a nursing home, rehab and the emergency room. This was on a cyclical basis until their passing months later. During this time, they became unable to use a urinal in a timely manner. At times, this led to a humiliating situation for them. It was then I realized that a need had developed not only for self-management in using the toilet, but also to facilitate their caregiver when assistance was required. The idea came to facilitate the situation by modifying the opening of the pajamas.
